Oldsmobile (Sonnet #442)

Oldsmobile [Sonnet #442]

Maple Valley, Washington

Power enough to fill my dreams, but then
Performance to get me into trouble.
Ventura Highway to the Coast, double
Time, there to find Cal Highway One, that’s when
The top came down, all sun, sand and endless scenes
Blue Pacific twisting vistas from bluffs
Overlooking rocks, waves and surf so rough.
Eight hours to the Bay, and she my queen
She nestled close; upshifting like a dream.
Our chariot christened the Noble Steed
It was our day, just she and I, no need
For ought but living in the moment’s stream.
By moonlight did we love near Monterrey.
